Why don't South Korea and North Korea reunite into one country again?

 

My Korean friend will soon have to go for military service.

It is the fate of all Korean men. 

Avoiding it is almost impossible.

This is because South Korea and North Korea are currently only in a ceasefire.

As of 2024, they are still technically at war.

As a result, my friend will soon have to go to the military.

Naturally, he says he doesn't want to go.

He doesn't want to waste a year and a half of his life.

Why were South Korea and North Korea, originally one country, divided into two?

It was due to the influence of Russia and the United States after World War II, when Japan withdrew from the Korean Peninsula, leaving it empty.

So why haven't they reunited into one country by 2024?

They had to split for tragic reasons.

If they were to reunite, the ceasefire would end.

If they were to reunite, my friend wouldn't need to go for military service anymore.

They've probably already forgotten why they were fighting in the first place.

But they remain divided and do not reunite.

I don't know the real reason.

A country that was once one split into two, and then reunited.

Germany was divided into West Germany and East Germany by the Berlin Wall,

But after the Berlin Wall fell, it became one country again.

What happened to Germany afterward?

West Germany, which was more prosperous, took control, and East Germany lost power.

Now, here's a question.

Which is more prosperous, South Korea or North Korea?

That's right. It's clearly South Korea, isn't it?

So if South Korea and North Korea were to merge, South Korea would take control, and North Korea would lose power.

History has already proven us this.

Now, imagine this situation.

You are the king of a country.

Your country is very poor, and the people are dissatisfied with you.

But it's okay!!

You are safe!!

Because you are the king!!

Your military always protects you.

But one day, your country decides to merge with another country.

You are no longer the king.

Naturally, the military that protected you no longer has a reason to do so.

Yes, in this country where the people are dissatisfied with you as king, you suddenly lose your bodyguards.

Now, here's the question.

What do you think will happen to you???

That's the point.

You can imagine it, right?

If you lost your power and military, people would come to you for revenge!!

There is no one left anywhere to protect you!!

People will come to capture you with weapons.

Then probably, your country would be like these.

And

Probably, you would be like this.

It's simply scary!!

Too much scary!!

So you absolutely don't want to merge.

Anyone would feel the same.

I don't wanna do it either!!

Therefore, the day when South Korea and North Korea become one country will probably never come.

To be safe for himself.

Certainly, he would maintain his own safety.

But he has sacrificed all others else for his own safety.

He probably doesn't have anyone he can truly trust.

He would have no one who believed him.

So we can really say that such a life is truly happy?

 Why North Korea became a poor country.

It's because of the first North Korean dictator.

His name is Kim Il-sung.

He was a soldier before becoming president.

His politics ruined North Korea...

Southside Agriculture was thriving, and the Northside Industry was flourishing on the Korean Peninsula.

So It seems like Northside would flourish, right?

But it's not true!!!!!!!!!

They don't have any tips to make food.

They don't know how to do Agriculture.

People began big panic because of the food shortage.

 What should we do to make food!!!!!!

Kim Il-sung!!

We must make food to avoid great famine!!!!!!

Kim Il-sung!! What we should do!!!

So Kim Il-sung gave the instruction.

There are a lot of Mountains, right!! 

"If you don't have enough food, 

you should cut forests on the mountain then turn forests into terraced fields and grow corn!!

Yes, Sir!!

Then, people cut forests on mountains and planted corn along with his instructions.

At that time They didn't imagine that this decision would ruin North Korea's future.

By the way, I wanna ask one question...

Have you seen that corn growing on terraced fields?

No way!!

Yes, Corn can't grow up on terraced fields.

Generally, Corn grows up wide vast, and flat land.

But of course, Kim Il-sung doesn't know that.

No way that he knows that!!

Because he was a soldier before!!

Not a farmer!!

As a result, Corn didn't grow.

All the cones are ruined.

Not only that.

They already cut forests on mountains.

The mountain couldn't save rain, and because of that, they cut the forest.

Because of that, it caused a lot of terrible damage.

Then,

Damage 1,  

That caused A mudslide caused by heavy rain.

and the mountain sand flowed into an urban area.

Damage 2,

The river overflowed, causing a flood.

Damage 3,

A large amount of see dement flowed into the sea,

Causing a large number of fish to die.

Finally, because of that the Great Famine further accelerated.

In his attempt to solve food shortages, 

he has accelerated food shortages…

It is the horrible point of dictatorship.

No one can stop wrong politics and give an opinion to the dictator.

Nations have to follow a dictator to survive.

Because if the nation disobeys him, he might kill the nation.

No one wanna get killed.

So even though his instruction was wrong, 

Nations have to follow a dictator to survive.

No one can disobey.

That caused, North Korea to become a poor country.

Dictatorship is horrible......

Why do South Korean men have to go to the army?

Some people already know that South Korean men have to go to the army for one year and a half by law.

But most people don't know the reason why.

Conclusions, The reason why is the historical reason.

A long time ago, North Korea and South Korea were the same country and  the Korean peninsula was a colony of Japan.

1998. The World War ended.

And after the world war, The loser country of Japan lost the Korean peninsula so Japan disappeared from the Korean Peninsula.

The Korean peninsula became empty.

Then the Soviet Union came to the Korean peninsula from the North to try to get it as a colony.

Then America came to the Korean peninsula from the South to prevent the Soviet Union to getting a colony.

America didn’t hope that the Soviet Union will get a power In Asia.

So the war happened.

The Korean War happened

Finally, a truce accord was reached between  America and the Soviet Union.

As a result, the Korean peninsula separated into North and South between 38 degrees North latitude.

It became North Korea and South Korea by a borderline of 38 degrees North latitude.

But it's a truce accord.


It's not the end of war.


North and South Korea are technically still at war.


It's just a truce accord.


Because they are still in the war.



The war is not over, but an armistice has been signed,


So nominally the country is still in a state of war even in 2023.
