The story begins in 1985,
when the Osaka professional baseball team, the Hanshin Tigers, won the championship and became the best team in Japan.
Excited by this, the local passionate fans turned into a mob.
・They walked around naked.
・They set off fireworks.
・They climbed onto streetlights and the roofs of nearby shops.
・They stole the eyes of the giant crab statue from a crab restaurant.
Due to assaults and property damage, the situation escalated to the point where the police were dispatched.
And the Dotonbori River is incredibly dirty.
Household and industrial wastewater was being discharged into it.
It is a popular tourist spot where many people gather, especially during events and festivals, a lot of trash is discarded into the Dotonbori River.
And because the water flow is slow, the water does not get purified, and trash continues to accumulate.
During this incident, the mob found something at a nearby Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The professional baseball player Randy Bass, led the team to victory at the time.
NO!!
In reality, it was the Colonel Sanders statue (the mascot of Kentucky Fried Chicken's founder).
But the fans, who had become crazy with excitement over the Hanshin Tigers' victory, said:
"It's Randy Bass!! Randy Bass is here!!"
"Randy Bass will dive into the Dotonbori River!"
The rioting fans, similar to those diving into the Dotonbori River, threw the Colonel Sanders statue into the filthy river, mistaking it for Randy Bass.
Thus, the Colonel Sanders statue was submerged in the filthy river.
After this, the Hanshin Tigers did not win any championships, and it came to be known as the “Curse of Colonel Sanders”.
So a lot of fans regret that.
Regretful local fans and TV programs conducted multiple searches for the Colonel Sanders statue.
Moped etc that someone dumped.
Colonel Sanders's stature was not found for 24 years.
For 24 years!?
Exactly! 24 years later, it was accidentally discovered.
After that, the Colonel Sanders statue was displayed at the Kentucky Fried Chicken Kansai branch.
However, due to the severe deterioration from being submerged at the bottom of the dirty river for 24 years, it became impossible to preserve, and it was discarded this year.
And what's concerning is whether the curse has been lifted, right?
Since the statue has been discovered and retrieved from the river, it wouldn't be surprising if the curse were lifted.
Some might think that it's time for them to win a championship, right?
However, even now, the Hanshin Tigers have not won a championship.
It seems that the curse has not yet been lifted.
It seems that the grudge from being submerged at the bottom of that filthy river for 24 years isn't going to disappear so easily.
When you see a Colonel Sanders statue in town,
let's treat it with caution.
